About

Allison H. Smith, FNP-BC, IFMCP

Allison H. Smith, FNP, is a double board-certified family nurse practitioner from Mississippi who brings deep expertise in functional medicine to PEAK Integrative Medicine. With a BS in Visual Art and advanced training from the Institute for Functional Medicine, her passion for holistic health was forged through nearly 30 years of personal struggles with gut issues—chronic fatigue, bloating, stomach pain, anxiety, and skin conditions—that defied traditional treatments.

This journey as a mother of three transformed when she embraced functional medicine, uncovering root causes and reclaiming her vitality, energy, and clarity. Now, Allison empowers patients stuck in conventional care, crafting personalized plans to tackle gut health, fatigue, and brain fog, while restoring confidence and balance. A believer in the mind-body connection, she blends physical, mental, and emotional healing, guided by her faith. Outside the clinic, she enjoys reading, exercising, creating art, and making family memories through travel. Her mission is clear: help others break free from health struggles and thrive.

Getting To Know Allison Smith

Allison helps people who are struggling with persistent gut health issues like bloating, fatigue, stomach pain, and brain fog—things that just won’t go away no matter what they try. Many of Allison’s patients have seen multiple doctors, maybe even specialists, but they still feel stuck. The traditional medical system has failed them, and they’re frustrated, searching for real answers.

As a functional medicine nurse practitioner, Allison takes a holistic approach to health. Instead of just managing symptoms, she focuses on finding and fixing the root cause. Allison uses comprehensive lab work to get a full picture of what’s going on, then creates personalized supplement plans and lifestyle strategies that fit into their hectic lives.

Her goal is to help you regain energy, feel confident in your clothes, and enjoy quality time with your families—without being held back by health issues. It’s all about getting the body back into balance so you can finally feel like yourself again!

Where Is Allison From & Where Did She Receive Her Medical Training?

Allison is from Madison, Mississippi where she was born and raised. Allison attended the University of Mississippi Medical Center for her education and later continued her training with the Institute for Functional Medicine.

What Does Allison Do In Her Free Time?

“Outside of work, I’m busy with my family—my husband, three kids, and our three cats and two dogs. I enjoy reading, exercising, and creating art (my first bachelor’s degree is actually in visual art!). I’m also really involved in my church and love traveling with my kids whenever we can. And no matter what I’m doing, you can pretty much always find me with a cup of tea or coffee in hand!”

What Is Allison’s Favorite Meal?

One of my favorite healthy but incredibly delicious meals is a perfectly seared salmon fillet with roasted sweet potatoes and a side of garlicky sautéed greens (like spinach or kale).

Allison’s Personal Goals For This Year

My goal this year is to prioritize my own health just as much as I do for my patients—staying consistent with my workouts, nourishing my body well, and making time for rest and creativity.

Allison’s Work Related Goals For This Year

A big work-related goal for me this year is to expand my impact by growing my network and helping more women (specifically) finally get the answers they’ve been searching for when it comes to their health. I want to make functional wellness more accessible, empowering women to feel their best and regain their energy and confidence!

What Is Allison’s Superpower & Favorite Thing To Do At PEAK

“My favorite thing about integrative medicine is getting to the root cause of health issues instead of just managing symptoms. I love diving deep into lab work, lifestyle factors, and gut health to help women finally understand what’s been holding them back.

The cases I love most are women struggling with persistent gut issues like bloating, fatigue, brain fog, and stomach pain—especially those who feel like they’ve tried everything but still aren’t getting answers. Helping them connect the dots and find real solutions is so rewarding!

The most satisfying part of my job is seeing my patients regain their energy, confidence, and quality of life. When a patient tells me they feel like themselves again, can enjoy time with their family without discomfort, or no longer feel frustrated with their health, that’s everything to me.

My superpower? I’d say it’s my ability to take complex health issues and break them down in a way that’s easy to understand and actually actionable. I help women feel empowered, not overwhelmed, on their health journey!”

How Long Has Allison Worked In Healthcare/Health & Wellness

Allison has been working in health and wellness care since 2015. She first started as an EMT, then cardiac-medical/surgical nurse, family nurse practitioner, and now functional medicine nurse practitioner.

Why Did Allison Decide To Go Into The Health & Wellness Field?

“I decided to go into the health and wellness field because I’ve experienced firsthand how gut health can impact every aspect of life. Growing up, I had a sensitive stomach, but I thought it was normal—until it became chronic, affecting my daily life and even causing anxiety. Despite seeking traditional medical help, I couldn’t find real answers that aligned with my health beliefs.

Discovering functional medicine was life-changing. It helped me understand my body’s unique needs and finally heal in a way that traditional medicine never could. That experience inspired me to help other women who feel stuck, frustrated, and unheard when it comes to their health.

I also grew up with a special needs sibling, which made caring for others feel natural to me. I’ve always had a heart for helping people, and now I get to combine that with my passion for functional medicine—guiding women to true healing so they can feel their best and enjoy life again.”

What Does Allison Like Most About Integrative Medicine

“What I love most about integrative medicine is how it bridges the gap between traditional healthcare and holistic healing. It’s not just about treating symptoms—it’s about getting to the root cause, optimizing health, and truly helping people feel their best long-term.

I love that I can use my background in medicine while incorporating functional medicine, prevention, nutrition, and lifestyle changes to create a comprehensive, personalized approach. It’s empowering to help women find real answers, especially when they’ve felt dismissed or unheard in the traditional system.

Bringing together elements like lab testing, gut healing, hormone balance, and even collaborations with other practitioners (like chiropractors or wellness experts) makes integrative medicine so effective. It’s about treating the whole person, not just a diagnosis, and that’s what makes it so rewarding!”

Who Is Allison’s Hero Or Person Who Inspires Her?

“I greatly admire Paul from the Bible because he was someone who preached the gospel with boldness and an unwavering commitment to truth, even when it wasn’t popular or widely accepted. Paul often felt singled out for his beliefs, facing criticism and rejection, yet he continued to preach the message with conviction, knowing it was the truth that would ultimately bring freedom and healing to others.

I can relate to Paul’s experience in many ways, especially in the context of my journey with functional medicine. When I was stuck in a traditional healthcare model, I often felt isolated and misunderstood—like I was pushing against the grain, trying to share something that didn’t fit into the conventional framework. Just as Paul faced resistance in his mission, I too encountered challenges as I sought to help people with a more holistic, root-cause approach to healing, which wasn’t always supported in mainstream healthcare.

However, much like Paul, I knew that what I was offering could truly bring healing and transformation, and that kept me going. Today, I’m more passionate than ever about helping people through functional medicine, and I’m grateful that I can now stand firm in my belief that healing goes beyond just managing symptoms—it’s about addressing the root causes of health struggles and restoring true well-being.”

Allison’s Note To You

“I can honestly say that I have never felt more aligned with where God wants me than I do now. My work at PEAK and in the realm of health and wellness feels like the perfect expression of my purpose and calling. The journey I’ve been on—from overcoming my own health struggles to discovering functional medicine and now guiding others to healing—has been nothing short of transformative. Every day, I see how God is working through me to help women regain their health, their confidence, and their joy.

What drives me most is the opportunity to truly make a difference in people’s lives—to be a vessel for holistic healing and transformation. It’s not just about physical health; it’s about the mind, body, and spirit connection, and I am so grateful that I can use my gifts and knowledge to help others discover their own path to wellness.

I feel blessed to be in a field where I can integrate my passion for functional medicine with my faith, offering both physical healing and spiritual encouragement. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and I’m grateful that God has led me here, working in a way that feels so right.”
