Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) at PEAK Integrative Medicine
At PEAK Integrative Medicine, we are proud to offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) using our state-of-the-art soft hyperbaric chamber. HBOT is a non-invasive treatment modality that involves breathing concentrated oxygen in a pressurized environment, which promotes the body’s natural healing processes and offers a wide range of health benefits.

“We’re proud to be able to bring this to Schuylkill County and be one of the only practices locally to offer this type of therapy outside of the hospital based chambers.”
How A Hyperbaric Chamber Works
Patients relax in our hyperbaric chamber and breathe higher levels of oxygen at elevated atmospheric pressure during an HBOT session. Because of this process, oxygen enters the bloodstream more easily and reaches parts of the body that might not have enough oxygen because of wounds, inflammation, or poor circulation. HBOT increases overall healing, decreases inflammation, and promotes cellular regeneration and repair by supplying oxygen-rich blood to tissues and cells.
PEAK’s Hyperbaric Chamber For Pennsylvania Residents
Our chamber can fit two or three people at once comfortably. This means less wait time to use the hyperbaric chamber and more affordability when you get a group to utilize it together. The functionality of the chamber is not impeded by the number of people in the chamber and it can make the time spent more enjoyable with a partner.
How A Soft Hyperbaric Chamber Operates
Compared to a hard chamber that uses higher pressure and pure 100% oxygen “soft” hyperbaric chamber has a bit lower pressure and a lower oxygen potency. This reduces the risk of oxygen poisoning and other potential side effects. Research isn’t clear, but it may require more sessions than a “hard” hyperbaric chamber.
To have the best effects, HBOT is usually given in a series of sessions. Depending on the treatment needs, objectives for health, and personal response of the individual, the number and frequency of treatments may change. Each patient will work closely with our medical staff to create a customized treatment plan that addresses their specific needs.
Off-Label Use For Hyperbaric Chamber Therapy
Many times a hyperbaric chamber is utilized for specific brain function and neurological conditions as well as recovery from a variety of injuries and chronic conditions. Many patients seek out HBOT use for the following conditions because of their personal experience and the benefits they have seen. Here are a few key off-label uses of a barometric chamber:
- Neurological Conditions: By improving the flow of oxygen to the brain, our hyperbaric chamber can help individuals with a range of neurological conditions manage their symptoms and enhance their cognitive performance.
- Traumatic Brain Injury: Hyperbaric oxygen treatment has demonstrated promise in aiding recovery from traumatic brain injury by encouraging tissue repair and lowering inflammation in the brain’s injured regions.
- Stroke: Hyperbaric oxygen treatment has the potential to improve motor function and cognitive capacities after a stroke by encouraging neuroplasticity and boosting angiogenesis.
- Chronic Migraines: Hyperbaric oxygen treatment may be able to relieve the symptoms of chronic migraine sufferers by lowering inflammation and encouraging vasoconstriction (constricting blood vessels) in the brain with raised oxygen levels.
- Altzheimers & Dementia: Hyperbaric oxygen treatment has the potential to reduce cognitive loss in patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease by enhancing cerebral blood flow and lowering oxidative stress. It is important to note that research on this is still in development.
- Chronic Wounds: By encouraging angiogenesis, synthesizing collagen, and preventing infection, hyperbaric oxygen treatment has been used to speed up the healing process for those with chronic wounds.
- Autism Spectrum Disorders: According to some research, hyperbaric oxygen therapy may help people with ASD by enhancing brain perfusion and lowering inflammation, which may help with symptom management.
- Depression & PTSD: By reducing neuroinflammation and stimulating neurogenesis, hyperbaric oxygen treatment could give relief for those with PTSD and depression. On a simple level, it can enhance mood and cognitive performance.
- Chronic Pain Management: By lowering inflammation, encouraging tissue regeneration, and modifying pain signaling pathways, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been studied as a potential therapy for chronic pain management.
- Sports Injuries: By speeding up tissue regeneration, lowering inflammation, and encouraging angiogenesis, hyperbaric oxygen therapy may help athletes heal from sports injuries. This can result in athletes being able to return to their training and sport sooner.
- Mental Health: By improving brain function, lowering oxidative stress, and stimulating neuroplasticity, hyperbaric oxygen treatment has the potential to improve mental health and help a variety of mental health issues.
- Tissue Damage Caused By Radiation: By encouraging tissue oxygenation, angiogenesis, and collagen formation, hyperbaric oxygen treatment has been utilized to potentially improve healing results by mitigating tissue damage from radiation therapy.
- Anti-Aging: Although further research is in process for this area of HBOT use, hyperbaric oxygen treatment may offer anti-aging benefits by encouraging the creation of collagen, cellular regeneration, and a reduction in oxidative stress, which may enhance the health and vibrancy of the skin.
- Arthritis: By decreasing inflammation, encouraging tissue regeneration, and enhancing joint mobility and function, hyperbaric oxygen treatment may be able to relieve arthritis symptoms for some.
- Recovery From Cosmetic Surgery: Hyperbaric oxygen treatment has the potential to improve the healing process after a cosmetic surgery by increasing tissue oxygenation, decreasing bruising and swelling, and hastening wound healing. This might result in a quicker recovery and better results for the surgery by reducing scarring.
